The girl crochets....an ugly looking scarf.

So I did it! I finally finished my first crocheting project!

While not the most glamorous thing, I ended up sewing the ends together to make a cowl, which actually looks pretty cute. I'm planning on buying some white yarn soon and hopefully this one turns out more scarf like.

The girl travels....to her alma mater.

I have great friends...except that they live 3 hours away.

So I decided to take a trip down South and visit for the weekend. What I wasn't expecting was ankle deep snow. Thank goodness I packed some boots last minute. Tromping around in high heels wouldn't have been too fun. I talked wedding with B & watched a basketballl game. Finally got to go to the RB and fell down some stairs. Watched the 49ers win with Mr. D and went to a 4th of January party.

All in all, it was my most successful trip to date. Planning on my next one right now!

The girl is fashionable... with Heart Nails again.

So I rocked out the french manicure with a heart a few weeks back, and it turned out really well. After the not so good looking Newspaper nails, I needed a new look before my travels.

My 2nd attempt!

This time I got even better taping off the nail for the french manicure part. Got to find a new design for this week!

The girl sews...a single braided scarf

So I finally got my fabric. yay!

I made my scarf based off this post, on Put Up Your Dukes, which I found on Pinterest.

Mine is Brown & Light Brown and it actually turned out really well. Just a little bit of hand sewing and it will be good to go!

The girl is fashionable.... with Newspaper Nails

Honestly, I was not fashionable with these nails. This was my first Modern Girl disaster.

After seeing posts such as this one , from the Amusing/ Love is The Thing with Wings blog, on Pinterest, I decided to give it a try.

It didn't really work out as expected. I did rock it for a week, but I'll wait and try it again later.

The girl knits....sort of

So I haven't learned how to knit yet....but I did learn how to Crochet!

I came home from work to find a new crochet hook & yarn. Love my family! So after watching my teacher show me the chain stitch and the double crochet, she let me try. What I learned is that I'm the most awkward crocheter according to her, or more specifically, I hold the hook and yarn ridiculously. But hey! it works for me. So far, I made a doll blanket (my practice crocheting) and started to work on a scarf.

I'll post pictures when it looks a little bit more like a scarf, and less like a pot holder/dish cloth.

The girl sews...soon!

One of my main New Years resolutions was to learn how to sew. So, during my Jan. 1 holiday, I searched around the net & Pinterest, for some ideas and fabrics. I found some great projects, and thanks to a generous egift card from a co-worker (Love her!), everything seemed to fall into place.

I purchased some fabric from Fabric.com to hopefully make four projects. The fabric should be arriving this week & I'm super excited. Hopefully, everything I purchased is the right size and the correct fabric for my projects. It's tough coordinating colors, choosing fabric for multiple projects, and picking the correct type of fabric when you are an extremely novice sewer.

I'm sure I'll post pictures of the fabric & my projects as soon as I can!!

The girl is fashionable....with a heart french manicure

Only 7 days in, and I am already neglecting the blog. Oh no! But while I have been away I have been knocking things off my modern girl list left and right, so I have many new posts to come!

This week I decided to do my own nails after being inspired by a picture on Pinterest (which I LOVE).

This nails are inspired by the post on Post Grad Crafts.

For my first try, they turned out pretty well! Her blog really inspired me to try to start doing my own nails instead of spending time at the salon. Wonder what my next design will be!

The girl stays fit...with Fleetly

Last year, I became really motivated to exercise and eat healthy. I kept track of my workouts in a little dollar store yearly planner. So in 2012, I wanted to continue with these habits, but find a little bit more modern way to keep track. Hence me joining Fleetly.

I discovered this website through a friend who is very up-to-date on online applications. I learned about Skype, Twitter, and Gmail through this person, before they were the hip cool thing to use. They know their stuff.

From what I've seen Fleetly allows me to track repetitions of different workouts, record my miles, and enter different challenges where I compete against people throughout the world.

As I learn and use it more, I'll definitely share my thoughts :)

The girl cooks...Spinach & Artichoke Dip Pizza

This week I learned how to make a meal that I will definitely be making many many times in the future. Seriously, this was too easy.

So how did I make this delicious meal?

Ingredients:
-Pizza Crust ( a bought a tube of store bought pizza crust)
-Chicken
-Spinach & Artichoke Dip ( I bought a frozen TGIF box, but any favorite recipe will do)
-Parmesan Cheese (I use the old-school green can, but I'd love to try real shredded cheese next time)

How to:
-Grill up the chicken & cut into small pieces
-Heat the Spinach & Artichoke Dip according to instructions
-Roll out the pizza crust on to a cookie sheet
-Spread the dip on to the crust
-Top the dip with the chicken pieces
-Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over top
-Cook according to instructions for pizza crust

This was simple and delicious. Definitely a great appetizer for a party.

My 366 Day Journey!

In 2011, my goal was to "Be Happy." While it might not have always come across, in the back of the my mind, I always tried to aim for that goal. With that motto, 2011 turned out to being the happiest, most successful year to date.

So when it came to decide on my 2012 goal, I started thinking about all of the things that I wanted to start doing or learn how to do. I wanted to learn to sew, cook, be more independent, travel..I wanted to be the Modern Woman.  A woman who was self-sufficient, crafty, classy, successful, and independent. Seeing as I am just beginning my journey, I thought I would stick with be the modern girl :)

For me, the modern girl....
 -sews
 -knits
 -bakes
 -cooks
 -travels
 -learns
 -is fashionable
 -crafts
 -stays fit
 -dines out
 -reads
 -shops
 -finds love
-and probably much more that I'll discover!

Over the next 366 days, I hope to track my progress on how I spent the year trying to be the modern girl.
